Made with watercolour on silk or paper, Xu Hualing uses this traditional technique to serve the fascination she had for the once imported Hong Kong and Taiwanese Kung Fu movies of her childhood. Hereby she carefully portrays the subtle psychological nuances of the feminine condition experienced by the post-Mao generation in China; the strength, bravery and sensuousness of her heroines as well as the real women situation, striving to attain the ideals made popular by these fictions.
